The Ballyhoura Active Series was established in 2010 and consists of 10 road races organised by Athletic Clubs in the Ballyhoura region. These races are organised over the Spring and Summer months at different venues these range from 5k to half marathon distances. There are races which are short at the start of the season which attract beginners and fun runners. Towards the end of the series as fitness levels improve the distance becomes more challenging. This method encourages more people to compete, therefore it adds adds incentive for competitors to keep their fitness levels up during the summer months, thus contributing to the national fitness program.
