Ballyhoura Active Report Notes Week Ending 19/02/18

Ballyhoura Active Report

Finally, there is a bit of heat in the air and after a very cold wet few days we are beginning to thaw out. You could say it’s a spring day today and hopefully the weather will continue to improve. At the minute the only place to run is on the roads, all the trails and mountains are a mess at the moment unless they have a stony base, or are rocky, anyplace that there is peat or grass is just turned to muck at the moment. The only place off road that looks good is Doneraile park and North Cork AC have a 5k there this weekend at 11am and on the roads West limerick AC have their Adare 10km on Sunday but unfortunately it is sold out.

We have the Active series all set up and ready to go thanks to all the clubs who have gotten involved. This year promises to be a great year for running in the region and all these races are going to be really good for anyone just starting to run. Between 5k, 4mile and 5mile races and we have only one 10 km, there will be plenty of flat fast routes for the speedsters and for the more casual runner a very manageable distance. Also there are a few of each so you can check your progress and see how much your time improves over the Summer. All the emphasis at the moment is on fitness and health and so many people are looking to do long distance which is a pity as a lot of people over do it and end up injured. It’s good to challenge yourself as long as you know what your body can do, and always make sure you have a good base of training in place. All the information on all our events can be found on the website, http://ballyhouraactive.com/ and on the facebookhttps://www.facebook.com/BallyhouraActiveSeries/

If you are at a loose end at the weekend there is a biking blitz at the Bike park check out the Information on http://bikingblitz.ie/index.php/limerick-blitz/ reg from 9.30 am.
