Ballyhoura Active Report Weekending 13/05/18

Ballyhoura Active Series

We had a big night in Galbally last Friday night as over 300 runners turned up to the Michael (Curley) Cunningham 4 mile road race organised by Mooreabbey Milers AC. The gods really smiled down on us as the rain from earlier in the day cleared off and the sunshine poured out and in spite of all the sunshine it was a cool evening, which made for perfect conditions for running. Niall Shannahan An Bru AC took full advantage good conditions as he romped home in 19.36 to finish a solid minute ahead of Declan Moore Bilboa AC in second in 20.32. The third man home was Dermot Hayes Dundrum AC and first 0/50 in a time of 21.14. Carol Finn was first of the lady’s in 23.40 followed by Shona O Flynn Dooneen AC 24.29 and third was Sharon Cleere of Thurlas Croaks AC 24.41. Another noticeable performance on the night was Joe Gough from West Waterford AC and current world Champion 800meters 0/65 who won the 0/60’s prize on the night. We would Like to thank Clotilde Fitzgibbon of Clotilde’s Fruit Compote who sponsored the Ballyhoura prize on the night. We would also like to thank Curleys Family turned up to support the race, and his father John presented the Michael (Curley) Cunningham cup to Niall Shannahan our worthy champion. This was a great tribute to Curley and we would like to thank all who supported the event on the night and we will also be denoting a large proportion of the takings from the race to the Oncology department in Cork University Hospital.

Declan Moore Bilboa AC in second in 20.32

Carol Finn Leevale AC being presented her prize as first lady.

The racing goes on next Friday night as we head to the other side of the border and enjoy the hospitality of the Cork people as Buttevant RC host their 4 mile run on Friday 18th of May. They are running slightly later in Buttevant as the race starts at 8pm next Friday night, which will give us a great chance to get there in time, so try to be there early as this is their first time running this event and it would help to take the pressure off. Buttevant is on the main Cork to Limerick Road Between Charleville and Mallow and is 45 minutes from Cork City and 55 minutes from Limerick City. This is a new route and can be viewed on the ballyhouraactive website and on facebook.

The following Friday night 25th of May is the Kilmallock 5 Miler in honour of Jim Hogan, Then we will give you a week off before we start the second half of our events in June.
