Ballyhoura Active series
With the European championships on at the moment it is fantastic to see the best Athletes in Europe battle it out to see who is best. Phil Healy is in the final of the 200 which is really good, Thomas Barr is an automatic finalist in the 400 meter’s hurdles and loads of other Athlete’s yet to run for Ireland. It is great to see the green shirt up the front end of these events with the best in Europe and the world. So the best of luck to all our boys and Girls in Green.
We had another great weekend with the Hurling as Galway and Clare battled it out for a place in the All-Ireland final. Galway scraped through with a one-point advantage so with a Limerick and Galway final John Kiely’s men are in with a great chance of an all-Ireland after 45 years of a wait.
But Back to running and with our last events on the horizon and only a week away until we meet at the country club for their 5 Km to give it a right lash. This is the final 5k in the series but if you are looking for a run next Friday night Galty runners have their GR8km in Mitchelstown that’s next Friday night the 10th of August. The following Friday 17th the Country club will host their 5km and our second last event, then the Friday after that the 24th is the Churchtown AC 5 mile. That will be the last race in the series for 2018 and we will have a special Buff for those who compete in these two last events.
Dooneen AC also have an event at Limerick racecourse on Sunday the 26th of August as they have run a cross country for the last few years. The idea is to get in a cross-country race before the championships start, these are very popular in other countries and usually they are run on easier cross country courses and the fact that they are on that little bit early it may be dry and firm under foot. It is also a great place to see if cross country suits you as a lot of people don’t understand how big a difference there is between road and Grass.
