Ballyhoura Active Series Report Week Ending 11th of March

We had the official launch of the Active series last Wednesday night in Bruff, An Bru AC were our hosts on the night and the venue was the GAA club house. I would Like to thank An Bru AC for hosting the event on the night and for doing the catering as we were spoiled with some lovely treats. Thanks also to all the clubs who turned up on the night,I would also like to thank Matt Twomey the original active series organiser who went to great lengths to be with us on the night. Michael Carmody the new Chairman and head coach with An Bru gave a Q and A talk on fitness and training, which everyone found very interesting. There were two cups there on the night the Jim Hogan cup which will be handed out on the night in Kilmallock after their 5 mile road race on the 25th of May. There was also the Michael (Curley)Cunningham cup which will be handed out in Galbally on the 11th of may by Mooreabbey Milers AC. We then took our pics of all the clubs a few new this year and a few of the usual suspects. We have plenty of colour this year some great races and some great people who are so interested in running and sport. The profile of our races has changed from other years in that we have asked the clubs to look for shorter routes, which are more manageable for beginners. Over the last few years we have noticed that clubs who have run couch to 5km programs have lost some of these people as the races were that bit too long. So this year we hope that the couch to 5 km runners will find the races more enticing and try some more of our events and keep the fitness going. The first race in the Active series is on the 27th of April from the Country Club on the old Cratlow road where Dooneen AC host their 5mile race. We will put a profile and a map of the route up on the website in the next week or so check out
As we are moving into the spring please keep checking out the website and facebook pages for all the information on upcoming events and club fixtures.
