Ballyhoura Active Series Report Week Ending 08.04.18

Ballyhoura Active

Well we are in April and everything thing is about to take off, the first race in the Active will be on Friday the 27th of April just on the outskirts of Limerick city. We have directions up on the web page, the race starts at the country club on the old Cratlow rd. This race is also part of a four race series run by Dooneen AC which helps them to raise funds to run their club. The Michael Rejmer is the final race in their series and the first race in the Ballyhoura Active series. This series started on Friday night last so if you are up for it lend Dooneen AC some support and enjoy one of their races.

For us the Bank Holiday weekend is going to be a very busy weekend as we have the Ballyhoura International walking festival, and over the weekend there will be guided walks all over the region. There are 24 walks in total, the walks are graded A,B,C, A being for serious walkers, B for intermediate walkers and C are easy walks of special interest. There will be walks on the Galtys on the Slieve Felims and of course the Ballyhouras. You can check out all our walks on the Ballyhouracountry.com, web site.

Also on the Bank holiday weekend there will be a festival of running from Kilfinane in the form of the Ballyhoura Mountain Marathon on Saturday the 5th of May there will be an Ultras event which covers over 60 Km, a full marathon event over 42km a Half marathon event and a 10 km event all on trails and mountains around Kilfinane. This event has been running for the last number of years and we have had some great local champions the best known local man being Adrian Hennessy who unfortunately was beaten by Eoin Sugrue in 2017. So we expect a great battle this year between the both of them. To register for these events you will have to go on the IMRA (Irish Mountain Running Association) website. There will be other events on just watch this space.
