Ballyhoura Report Week Ending 5/9/2017

Ballyhoura Active
With the Active series over for another year, we look forward to the autumn as we head back into the trails. This year we are looking out for some trails close to you which are runner friendly. I f yo have a trail you or your club use we would be happy to set up a run on a Saturday morning run there where we can all meet for a casual run. Ideally the route should be between 5 and 10 km in length and a novice runner should be able to jog around it without too much difficulty. We don’t want to put people off, I can come and check it out beforehand. My details are on the website or you can ring Ballyhoura on 063 91300. We already have our first route picked out it is the cannon Sheehan Loop up in Glenanare, we have used it before and most people love it. I will give more details on the website and in next week’s report.
At the weekend I was in Slovakia for the World Masters Mountain running championships. There was a large group of Irish athletics there. We had first 0/45 men Des Kennedy, 2nd 0/60 Martin Mc Donald and 3rd 0/40 ladies Gillian Wasson. The men won Gold in the 0/35 team and the ladies 0/40 team won bronze. We had 10 men in the 0/35 race and all 10 were in the top 20, which is a fantastic result.
Of course back home Galway were winning the all Ireland Hurling Championships there was a half Marathon in Dingle a mountain run on the Nagles and there was a 200km Kerry way Ultra race was won By Barry Hartnett in under 22hrs and smashed the old record.
