We had a brilliant day at the Cahir Half Marathon and Relay last Saturday for our annual summer social event. We had seven run the half marathon, two relay teams and some fantastic travelling supporters. It was an absolutely melting summer’s afternoon with the race kicking off in the height of the heat at 2pm. I can’t say we broke any club records but in true Roadrunner form we made the most of it with the highlight of the day for most of us being a dip in the river Suir afterwards and a few cold beers at the back of the party bus from our cooler boxes. Thank you to Mooreabbey Milers AC who coped so well in the conditions, providing extra water stops and sponges. Their best race edition was the stewards on bikes who cycled back and forth between runners providing extra water, jellies, moral support and good humour. The party bus continued on to Mitchelstown for food, a refreshment stop and mini pool tournament in Kildorrery, finishing up with a pub crawl in Churchtown village. Plans for 2019 have already begun.
On the race calendar the MMRA have a 6k Trail run this evening in Kilworth Woods. The Coachford 5 mile is tomorrow (Thursday) evening. On Saturday the new Run Kilkee 10k and Half Marathon takes place in Kilkee, Co Clare. On Sunday morning Banteer Community Council are hosting a 5k in Banteer village. Wednesdayweek the MMRA are holding a 9k on Slievereagh in Kilfinane. As usual we will try to carpool so keep an eye on our social media accounts.
The Churchtown 5 Mile
Like last year we are delighted to be hosing the final race of the Ballyhoura Active Series with our 5 mile road race on Friday 24th August at 7pm. This year we have introduced new prizes for the Course Record and Team Event. We are delighted to announce ‘Padre Pio Nursing Home’, Churchtown and ‘Countryside Montessori’ Doneraile as two of our race sponsors.
Regular training continues every Tuesday and Thursday at 8pm and for the summer weekend runs are Saturday at 9am and Sunday at 10am, meeting near the playground at the GAA ground. When demand requests it we also have an early morning run at 6.30am which is notified on our social media accounts. If there are any members who are hoping to target a specific race or time during the spring and summer please do not hesitate in asking our Club Captains or any of our more experienced members for help and guidance.
