Churchtown Roadrunners AC Club Notes Week Ending 17/12/17

Last Sunday was the renewal of the hugely popular and competitive Newmarket 5k hosted by Duhallow AC. Even though a few of our members were unable to run due to illness, we still had a strong number of runners, with some fantastic results. Congratulations to Nora, John and Neville who ran their first 5k’s as Roadrunners and to Linda and Catherine who secured pb’s.  There are a few races coming up over Christmas and the new year. There’s a Winter Solstice night time trail run from Glenbrohane Community Centre tomorrow Thursday 21st at 7pm. Charleville Chamber of Commerce are holding an 8k St Stephens Day in Charleville. Mooreabbey Milers have a chip timed one mile dash in Galbally on Saturday 30th and on the same day our neighbours Shandrum AC are holding their annual 5k.

Winter League – The Wild Chase

Last weekend we held the fifth round of our winter league. This is a race in handicap format with individual starting times. The only rule is no GPS devices are allowed. Last weekend entrants had a choice of running the normal four mile route on Saturday or attending the Newmarket 5k on Sunday. We’re taking a break this weekend for Christmas but I believe there’s a twist in store for our final weekend on 30th and 31st December where we’ve the option of running the Shandrum AC 5k or the Togher AC 5k. The leader board is currently as follows:

578 Mike

575 Anita

569 Martina

563 Brian

562 David

556 Pauline

553 Catherine

551 Johnny

541 Neville

539 Linda

536 Derry

527 Katie

526 Claire

525 Deirdre

523 Margie

520 Joanne

520 Cathy

502 Lisa

495 Angela

December 5k A Day Challenge

Through our friends in Kerry Crusaders a few of us have joined their annual December challenge. The challenge was simple, complete 5k each day by either running, walking or crawling. This is a challenge at any time of the year but in December on top of everyone’s normal daily life add in the short day’s, long night’s and the party season. This year we have also been graced with proper winter weather conditions, which has taken it’s toll on our runners with most of us taking ill.  But taking it all in to consideration we are all enjoying the challenge. We started out with ten members and we’re delighted to say, three week’s in, we’ve seven members still in. Best of Luck guys, we’re all intrigued to hear how you get on.
