Patrick Roche started the new year by taking part in his first race of the year, the Marathon Club of Ireland Listowel Marathon which took place on Saturday last the 6th of January. Patrick completed the race in a time of 5 hours 15 minutes which saw him finish 33rd in the race. This was another step to the milestone figure of 100 marathons with the Listowel race being his 92nd marathon completed.
Our Club AGM takes place on Thursday 11th January in Deebert House Hotel @ 8 pm. All club members are invited and indeed encouraged to attend. This is a chance for members to raise issues or to suggest changes or come up with any ideas that they feel can improve the club and the events it runs. Issues discussed will include but are not limited to the election of club officers, our 2018 C25K, our 5 mile road race etc.
Our very successful C25K will return for the 4th year on Monday the 22nd of January. For anyone not familiar with the event it is a fitness program based over a number of weeks that has the ultimate aim of being able to run or jog or walk a 5K. The event is open to people of all ages and all of levels of fitness and experience. People who have taken part in the event before are welcome to do so again. Coaching and mentoring will be provided by our experienced members including in areas such as training tips, effective warm-ups, nutrition etc. Details on how and to register for this year’s program will be announced shortly on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
The club trains four times a week Monday and Wednesday and Fridays meeting @ the side car park of the Church @ 7 pm and 10 am on Sundays outside Deebert House Hotel. Training for our Junior athletes will resume @ St Joseph’s Chareville Shortly. New members are welcome all year round. All ages and levels of experience are welcome. All athletes training in the evenings should dress appropriately with clothing suitable for the conditions including high Vis Vests.
