With many of our club athletes planning to take part in the Chareville half marathon which takes place this coming Sunday, it was not surprising that there were few runners in action the past week. However Patrick Roche completed his third marathon in consecutive weeks in completing the Clarinbridge Oyster marathon in a time of 4:41:15. This was good enough to see Patrick finish 27th in this event. This was we believe his 26th marathon of the year and next week it’s on to Kilkenny for his next race.
Chareville Half marathon
Next Sunday sees the 7th running of the Chareville half marathon which will see 1400 runners from the elite to the novice take to the roads between Chareville and Kilmallock for an event billed as Ireland’s Fastest and flattest half marathon. This year as in previous years there will be a sizeable contingent from Kilmallock AC taking part. This year we have quite a few athletes making their debut not only in this event but also @ the half marathon distance. Our training the last couple of months especially our long runs on Sunday have been well attended. The race itself feels like a home event to many in the club as it gives our runners a chance to run the streets of our where runners have in all previous incarnations of the race been given great support by the people of the parish. Hopefully the weather goods will look favourably on us.
The club trains four times a week Monday and Wednesday and Fridays meeting @ the side car park of the Church @ 7 pm for the Summer months and 10 am on Sundays outside Deebert House Hotel. Training for our Junior athletes on Tuesdays is finished until September. Anyone new to running or wishing to get back into running is welcome on Fridays where there will be experienced members of the club @ hand to offer advice and encouragement. All ages and levels of experience are welcome
