Over the Christmas period there was a plentiful array of road races and fun runs to choose and many of our runners resisted the Christmas tipple and the extra helping of turkey to take part. On St Stephens day the Lions Club of Chareville held a 8KM fun run and four of our athletes PJ Carey, John Paul McCarthy, Maurice McEniry and Aisling Deady took part with PJ finishing second and John Paul 5th in a PB time of 32:43. On the same day in Caherdavin the traditional 10k took part with 2 Kilmallock AC runner’s taking part. Ed Hannon finished 27th in a time of 41:13 with Jerry Sheedy was first man over 70 in a fine time of 53:35.
The Mooreabbey Milers hosted Mile Dash has become a very popular end of year run since it debuted in the last few years. A number of our runners made the journey to Galbally to take part. John Paul McCarthy taking part for the first time in the event finished in 5:40, Donie Dwane ran 5:54 a big improvement on last year’s time with Aisling Deady running the race for the second time finishing in 7:16. On the same day PJ Carey finished second in a run in North Cork for the second time over the holiday period by filling that position in the Newtownshandrum 5K Road Race. PJ’s time was 17:59.
