Running Roundup

With the last bank holiday of our glorious summer falling this weekend it was not surprising that the majority of our athletes used it to recharge their batteries in anticipation of upcoming races. However Patrick Roche is almost as regular as clockwork when it comes to his favourite discipline of marathon running and indeed the bank holiday gave him an extra race to attempt. On Saturday Patrick travelled to the Lilliput Adventure Centre in Mullingar to take on the Celtic Warrior Challenge. This event is split into different categories with Triathlon events and kayaking as well as shorter races such as 10K, Half marathon etc. Patrick took the 3 marathons in 3 days challenge. On Saturday he finished 21st in a time of 4:54:17 and on Sunday completed the same course in 5:35:31 and finished in 30th place. @ the time of posting we don’t have Pat’s Monday time which we will post on our social media pages when available. Pat’s total for the year to dater now stands @ 34 marathons.

Extra Training.

From Tuesday last the club has begun speed/interval training for our senior athletes @ the track in St Joseph’s in Chareville. The 200 metre track which is also used by our juvenile athletes is ideal for this method of training which has many benefits for runners of all distances including increase muscle strength, increased V02 Max, a longer and stronger stride, increased anaerobic endurance etc. All club members are invited to attend the session which runs from 6:15 to 7:15 on Tuesday evenings.

Training The club trains four times a week. with training Mondays, Wednesday’s and Friday’s   @ 7 pm @ the side car park of the church with training on Sundays outside Deebert House Hotel @ 10 am. Training for our Junior athletes is on a break until September. New members are welcome all year round. All ages and levels of experience are welcome..
