kilmallock AC Club Notes Week Ending 17/12/17

 Running Roundup

The Newmarket 5K hosted by Duhallow AC has a reputation as one of the flattest and fastest 5K races in Munster if not Ireland and this contributed to a bumper crowd of 298 taking part. Underlining the competitive nature of the race 96 runners finished under 20 minutes with the first 4 finishing under 15 minutes. Four of our runners took part with PJ Carey first club man home in 17:29 for 31st place. Next home was Tony McMahon in a year’s best time of 18:56 which saw him finish second in his category. Only a couple of places behind him was John Paul McCarthy in a time of 19:11 (PB). The fourth man Donie Dwane put in a solid time of 20:23.

Training for our Junior athletes is on a break till the new year. New members are welcome all year round. All ages and levels of experience are welcome. All athletes training in the evenings  should dress appropriately with high visibility clothing a must and also to take care when running on the roads. Training will continue over Christmas with obvious breaks for Christmas day and other bank holidays. There will be some runs that our members will be taking part in over Christmas, The Caherdavin 10k on St Stephen’s day and the Galbally mile dash on the 30th as well as the Portumna marathon. We wish our runners the best of luck in these and to all our members a happy Christmas and peaceful new year.
