Kilmallock Club Notes Week Ending 28th of January

Running Roundup

Saturday last saw the first 5K of the year run in the very popular Doneraile series hosted by North Cork AC and a large contingent made the trip from Kilmallock. First across the line for the club was John Paul McCarthy in a time of 19:19 which saw him finish 16th, a fine result in a competitive field. Next to finish in 26th place was Krzysztof Sikorski in a time of 20:29. The other finishers were Donie Dwane 21:54, Donnacha Enright 23:13, Tom Ryan 23:51, Mikey Collins 24:53, Sonya Ryan 25:59, Jenny Clery 27:59, Theresa Clery 32:50, Joanne Collins 33:01 and Elaine Connery 35:07. Well done to everyone especially to Donnacha Enright who ran a very promising race on her first run in almost a year due to injury.

Also on Saturday Patrick Roche completed his 2nd marathon of the year and his 93rd overall when he ran in the Marathon Club of Ireland marathon in Lilliput Co Westmeath. Patrick finished in a time of 5 hours and 8 minutes which saw him finish 52nd out of 87 runners. Next weekend it’s on to Co Offaly for his next marathon.

Andrew Wormald competed in the second of the Munster Mountain Running Association Winter/Spring league races on Sunday which took place in a Sunny but muddy Cratloe Woods. Andrew finished the 9K trail route in a time of 50:17.

Week 2 saw an increase in the tempo and intensity and also the attendance as new and returning faces bolstered our already impressive crowd. The active running/jogging time increased to segments of 50 seconds which all our attendees seem to take in their stride. Week 3 of 8 continues next Monday @ 7.
