Mooreabbey Milers

The Beast and Emma played havoc with weekend runs.

Willie O O’Donoghue out on a training run after the storm passes

Met Eireann warned us to stay indoors that an exceptional spectacular weather event was going to hit and by gosh were they right. As night drew in on Thursday with the chill in the air almost romanticsque snow flurries started to fall by morning time the countryside was covered in a blanket of white snow. While the place looked beautiful it meant all races were called to a halt for the safety of organisers, volunteers, runners and spectators. Club members were due to take part in slí gaeltacht mhúscraí {Rescheduled to Saturday March 17th}, the national indoor masters in Athlone {Rescheduled to Saturday March 10th}, the Hospital 5 mile in aid of Milford Hospice {Rescheduled to Sunday March 11th} and Killeagh 4 mile {Rescheduling In Process Date To Be Confirmed}. Best of luck to all running in the rescheduled races. Some milers weren’t deterred by the unique conditions and were bulling to get a run in so took the opportunity to hit the quiet roads, some serious dedication from Kevin, Tricia and Willie. While some were running some were having some fun and frolics in the snow building snowmen and igloos. The competitiveness doesn’t stop on the road, hills and fields it spreads to snowman making too. All in good fun and the prize for the best snowman goes to . . . .
