Mooreabbey Milers AC stayed the distance in Ballynonty, Tipperary last Sunday. The county 10 mile road championship was hosted by Ballynonty AC on a blustery but dry morning. Athletes from all over the county descended on the village to try their hand at one of the longest of the county competitions.
Four Mooreabbey Miler men took up the challenge, one of them being Ger Hanley who was to run his first 10 miles. Stuart Moloney stormed home in first place in a very good time of 54.38. Willie O’Donoghue ran a very good race, as he always does, finishing in 1.03 and winning gold in his category. Robert Cunningham continued his good form to cross the line in 1.08 with new kid on the block, Ger Hanley, finishing just behind Robert in 1.09. Congratulations to all for who did the club proud yet again on the county stage.
Marie O’Shea and Mary Pyke supported Darragh’s Red Cross Run in Doon, Co. Limerick on Sunday also. This is a fundraising event which attracted good crowds for the 10k and 5k road races. Marie ran very well and was the second lady home in the 10k. Mary finished as fourth lady so well done to both on such great performances.
Last weekend in Dingle three club members took part in the extremely popular Dingle full and half marathon. This is usually one of the most scenic road races in the country but last Saturday 2nd of September the wind and rain spoiled the views for thousands of runners. Despite the poor weather conditions our members did very well and enjoyed the course overall. Well done to Robert Cunningham, Derrick Ryan and Padraigín Riggs for completing the half marathon. Another great achievement over a distance that all three of them enjoy.
The very best of luck to all our athletes who will take part in the MMRA Loop de Loop in The Glen of Aherlow, Tipperary this Saturday 16th. They will be competing in the ultra, full and half marathon. A lot of training has gone in and we hope they enjoy themselves in this ever growing event.
