Mooreabbey Milers AC Notes Week Ending 3rd of December

Mooreabbey Milers AC were busy decorating themselves with silverware rather than decorating Christmas trees last weekend. From classic road races to mucky Munster cross country to charitable fun runs, the Milers were in the thick of it.

Over two thousand runners took part in the Waterford City Half Marathon last Saturday 2nd of December which was hosted by Waterford AC. This race had four of our members successfully completing the 13.1 mile distance on a cold and dry morning. Robert Cunningham ran well, crossing the line in just under 1 hour 35 minutes, followed by Mary Pyke in 1.51, Mandy Parslow in 1.59 and Ann Cummins in 1.59 also. Congratulations to all our athletes who took part.

Mooreabbey Milers AC have had a very busy cross country season, representing club, county and country and last Sunday 3rd was no different. Three of our men traveled down to Beaufort in county Kerry to compete in the Munster Intermediate Cross Country along with other county Tipperary representatives. In sticky, testing conditions the county team put in a great effort overall and were awarded with the bronze county medal for their efforts. Many congratulations to Tom Blackburn, Willie O’Donoghue and Kerry native Kevin Lenihan. The next cross country on the club calendar will be the county senior championships which will take place on December 10th in Annacarty and will be hosted by Dundrum AC. The very best of luck to all those who will take part.

Limerick Sports Partnership yet again organised the Blanket 5k in aid of the homeless of Limerick. Participants donated a blanket or sleeping bag instead of a registration fee. Families and friends came to UL to walk and run the 5k fun run around the university campus. There was a wonderful atmosphere at the Boathouse as the crowd gathered to start the run. Soaking it all up and supporting this good cause were the Cunningham and O’Shea families from Mooreabbey Milers. Ewan Cunningham was first to cross the finish line of this enjoyable and varied run. Great running from his younger brothers Ryan and Ruairí and parents Robert and Tricia too. Colm and Aoife O’Shea, accompanied by their mother Marie, did really well too.

Juvenile training comes to an end this Thursday 7th of December and will begin again in earnest late in January 2018. We would like to congratulate all of our juveniles on a very successful year of training and competing. Thanks to all the parents for their support throughout the last year. Registration for next year will be open in January for children who will be aged 7 and older in 2018 and new members are always welcome. Training for adults continues on Tuesday and Thursdaynights at 7pm in the community field, Galbally.
