Mooreabbey Milers club notes
Hilly Week For The Milers
MMRA Summer League
On a breezy Wednesday evening eight milers under the direction of RD Louise Rennie took on the robust slievereagh hills in Ballinvreena. This was an 8.8km race up to the penical pillar and communications mast at the summit of slievereagh and back down again. Pouncing home in second place was Tom Blackburn followed by Damien Holian, Willie O’Donoghue, Robert Cunningham, Gerard Hanley, Sarah Fitzpatrick, Patricia Ryan and Patrick Hartigan. Supporting RD Louise on the night were club members Ger, Jane, Kevin, Lynda, Marie, Mairead and Patricia Blackburn. A lovely spread of tea and sandwichs was provided after the race in Davy’s cottage in Ballinvreena. It’s off to Cork, Clare and Tipperary for the final few races in the league.
Lug Na Coille
Fresh from his second place summer league run on Wednesday evening Tom Blackburn headed to Wexford for an Irish Championship run on Saturday morning. On a day that was reported to have the four seasons in one Tom started his climb from the Glen of Imaal to the top of Lug and in less then an hour the mountain extraordinare had descended back into the Glen to claim a very healthy seventh place. There is one more race in this league which will be happening next month on home soil.
