Mooreabbey Milers Club Notes Week Ending 24/06/18

Galty Crossing
On the glorious Sunday that was last weekend six Mooreabbey Milers men headed out on the enduring 32 km treck that saw them cross the Galtees taking in sights from Anglesborough to Galty Mor to the finish at Cahir Castle. The temperatures hit there highest at 25°. This race was part of the Munster long distance championship and first home was mountain runner extraordinar Tom Blackburn followed by Robert Cunningham who also had a top ten finish then club men Kevin Lenihan and Liam O’Donnell who had a top 20 finish followed by Paddy O’ Shea and John Hayes. 
RD for the day was club member Patricia Ryan. Well done lads, Patricia and all club members that helped out in any way to ensure a great day.

Ballyhoura Active Series Newtownshandrum 4 Mile
Kieran Lees, Willie O’Donoghue, Patrick Holian, Damien Holian, Mary Pyke and Michelle Carey all took advantage of a sunny Friday evening last week in Newtownshandrum Co. Cork. There was a light breeze that made running the new route comfortable. Kieran was 4th overall, Willie took 8th and was 1st in his category while Patrick was the 1st junior male.

The Cahir Half Marathon

The closing date for entry to this fantastic run in its 4th year is this coming Saturday the 30th June. Registration is available online at, entries will not be accepted on the day or after this date for either the individual or relay race (hot competition in the relay this year) so don’t delay and get yourself registered. 
The picturesque town of Cahir is home to this AAI permit granted race taking place on Saturday the 7th of July so you can make a weekend of it. Once you have the hard work finished you’ll receive a bespoke medal, a goody bag, juice, there will be a fantastic physio on hand, warm showers and some fantastic food.


Adults train on Tuesday and Thursday nights at 7pm in the community field in Galbally. New members always welcome. Adults also do hill/mountain and trail training, become a registered member and get the added benefit of being included if the club’s whatsapp to keep up to date with training/races and events.
