Back to the roads after a successful cross country season.
County Novice Roads Championships
The county novice road championship was held in Moyne Co.Tipperary last Sunday. On the day 6 women and 6 men took to the roads. The ladies had a 3k race which was fiercely competitive with the previous years course record being broke. Out for the ladies team was Sarah Fitzpatrick, Aoife Courtney, Martina Moloney, Mary Pyke, Mandy Parslow and Tricia Ryan. The ladies put in a great race with Sarah claiming 9th place overall with the team placing 4th overall on the day. The men set off on their 6k shorty after the women. Kieran Lees, Willie O’Donoghue, Kevin Lenihan, Liam O’Donnell, Robert Cunningham and Damien Holian all took to the road for the milers. Kieran got himself settled well in amongst the leading pack finishing in 5th place overall. Following Kieran home was Willie, Kevin and Liam all finishing within 60 seconds of each other culminating in Kieran, Willie, Kevin and Liam taking home the bronze medals.
Patricia and Patrick in Crohaun Co. Waterford
Munster Mountain Running Association
The 4th race of the munster winter/spring league took place on Sunday in Crohaun
Co. Waterford. Tom Blackburn, Patrick Holian and Patricia Blackburn headed off to Waterford for this first time race in the league. Conditions on the day were poor with low visibility due to fog and rain. The course was brillant with plenty of variety with trail, bog, forest and a few hills. Tom was 2nd overall on the day with Patrick and Patricia running well. Well done all.
The 5th race in the league will take place in Ballinaboola Woods in Ballyhoura Mountains near Ballyhea Co. Cork on Sunday 11th March at 11:00.
The Michael ‘Curley’ Cunningham 4 mile run will be held in Galbally on Friday 11th of May at 7.30pm. A perpetual cup will be awarded in his honour to the overall winner of the race along with cash prizes for the first 3 men and women. Save the date. More details to follow.
The Cahir Half Marathon
The Cahir Half Marathon is back for the 4th year in succession. This time it’s on SATURDAY 7th of July, so you can make a weekend of it in the picturesque town of Chair. Juveniles train each Monday night at 7pm and each Thursday night at 6pm. Juveniles aged 7 and upwards are welcome to attend but must be registered with the club for insurance reasons.
Adults train on Tuesday and Thursday nights at 7pm. New members always welcome.
Thinking of giving up something for lent because your new years resolution got away from you. Why not take up something instead? On Monday nights Tricha Blackburn runs tailored made classes. A programme can be tailored to each person’s ability. This takes place at 7pm in the community field in Galbally.
